Getting better!

I've been working on a character for a mod I'm creating with some friends for class. I want this woman's model to be alot better than my last, I just spent about 30 minutes on basic anatomy alone! So far she is looking 10x better and I can't wait to finish!

Quick Update!

I'm really tired so I don't feel like writing much right now, but I decided to participate in the "Scotland SDK" in the Polycount forums. Here's my skin WIP:

Goodnight, folks!

Wires and Facets

I failed to post my wireframe images last night, and I asked for critiques on the Polycount.com forums. Pretty hard for them to help me when they can't see whats going on. Here are the pics with wireframe and facets on.

Concept taken from ConceptArt.org:

Oh boy...

I've continued with my project all through the night, and have managed to get the arms and legs connected. I've also built the gigantic boobs and booty that the artist drew on, and I did not realize how large they truly were until they were complete.

Now I'm working on the head, and I must say it is the most horrific process ever. It looks absolutely fantastic in facets, and the wire looks great... but as soon as smoothing is on it... it explodes. All the edges are everywhere, and everything is lumpy.

The screenshots below have auto-smooth applied as well mind you. *sigh* Hopefully things work out better for me tommorrow. Good night!

Who's that pretty girl in that window there?

Finally I'm making some progress on a 3d model that's not mechanical. We were given a t-pose concept to box model a 1,000 poly model from in class, but since I wanted to practice modeling with cylinders instead I've started modeling it that way as well. Also, this time instead of converting it to an editable mesh I converted it to an editable poly.

So far I've massed out the whole woman and now need to go in and add detail. I've been using basic cylinders, and a box for the head. Then from there I add edge loops, and move the verts.

This is what's finished so far. Thanks to Ben Mathis at http://www.poopinmymouth.com for his wonderful modelling tutorials. Expect more pictures by later tonight!

First Blog Entry

This just so happens to be my first Blog entry... ever. I'm never really good at updating these things, or checking back more than once a month, but I plan on trying to update this thing daily. It'll also hopefully keep on track with practicing 3d modeling, texturing, and traditional art.
As for what I did today... there really isn't much. I had 3d modeling class today with Fred Galpern, and we had to show off our final plane model fully skinned. After that we had an hour and fifteen minute lecture on character modeling, and then set off to start our own. I got done with a good chunk of my model within the remaining 30 minutes of class then headed home.
I've tried in vain to make two other 3d models today. One being being a warrior concept from Concept Artist, Feng Zhu (http://www.fengzhudesign.com), and the other some completely random space ship. I'll probably try again at it later tonight, and hopefully I'll come away with something half decent. Over the course of my modelling I also played around with some features in 3ds Max Studio 8 that aren't in Gmax and tried to figure them out... that didn't go so well.
Well I think this is most certainly a large enough blog entry for my first, and hopefully from here on out this will set the standard. Night'
